timerz pairs a 25 minute pomodoro with a rain soundscape and a rainy window scene. Rain falls outside a window at night, drops slide down the glass, a mug steams on the sill and a distant lightning flash lights the sky every minute or so. The sound is synthesized in the browser, so it starts instantly and never loops audibly.

Open the scene, press play, and the timer shows the remaining minutes in the tab title so you can switch away and come back.

## How to set it up

1. Open timerz with the rainy window scene already selected using the button below.
2. Press A or the sounds button to turn the ambient mix on. The scene loads rain at medium volume with a little thunder.
3. Adjust each track: rain, thunder, wind and brown noise all have their own slider. The master volume starts at 20 percent.
4. Press Space to start the pomodoro. Focus is 25 minutes, breaks are 5 and 15, all editable in settings.
5. Add the task you are working on with T. It shows under the clock and counts finished pomodoros.

## Why rain works for focus

Rain is a broadband sound with no sudden peaks. It masks voices, traffic and keyboard clicks without carrying information of its own, which is why so many people study with it. In timerz the rain is generated from filtered pink noise with a slow swell, so it moves like a real shower instead of repeating a sample.

If you want something steadier, mix in brown noise, which is deeper than white noise and less tiring over an hour. Thunder is random and sparse on purpose: a rumble every ten to thirty seconds.

## Other sounds you can layer

- Rain: pink noise through a band pass with a slow swell
- Thunder: a low rumble with a random envelope every 10 to 30 seconds
- Wind: brown noise through a wandering low pass filter
- Fireplace: a low rumble plus randomly gated crackles
- Ocean waves: pink noise with a swell that rises fast and falls slowly
- Stream: band passed pink noise with a moving center
- Birds: short frequency sweeps at random intervals, panned left and right
- Brown noise: integrated white noise, deep and soft
- Pink noise: white noise shaped so every octave carries the same energy
- White noise: random samples, the brightest of the three
- Café chatter: the one recording: a minute of a real coffee shop, CC0, looped with a crossfade, downloaded only when you turn it on

## Questions

### Can I use the rain sounds without the timer?

Yes. Switch to clock mode with C and leave the sounds on. The scene keeps animating and the sounds keep playing without any countdown.

### Are the rain sounds a recording?

No. They are synthesized with the Web Audio API from filtered noise and a slow envelope. That means no download, no seams when they loop, and they work offline.

### Can I add my own music?

Yes. The music panel plays YouTube: pick a preset station or paste any video or live stream link. It has its own volume, separate from the ambient sounds.

### Is timerz free?

Yes. Every scene, sound and feature is free, with no account and no ads. If it helps you, you can leave a tip on Ko-fi, or become a supporter once (pay what you want, from 5 dollars, on Gumroad) to unlock your own photo as a scene and two extra fonts. There is no subscription.

### Does timerz work offline?

Yes. timerz is a progressive web app. After the first visit the app, its scenes and sounds are cached, and you can install it on your desktop or phone. Only the YouTube music needs internet.

### Where is my data stored?

In your browser, using localStorage. Settings, tasks and session history never leave your device. There is no server and nothing to sign up for. You can export your history as JSON or erase everything from settings.

### Does the timer keep running if I switch tabs?

Yes. The timer stores when it started and derives the remaining time from the clock, so a background tab, a sleeping laptop or a page reload do not make it drift. The remaining time also shows in the tab title.
