A 20 minute timer

A free 20 minute timer that runs over an animated city lights scene, with optional rain, fire or ocean sounds. Opens ready to start, works offline, no account.

Open the 20 minute timer

The button above opens timerz at 20:00 over the City lights scene. Press Space to start.

Twenty minutes is a power nap before it turns into deep sleep, a chapter of a book, or a timed practice section. It sits between a break and a work block, so it works well for tasks that need attention but not a full pomodoro.

If 25 minutes feels long when you are tired or it is late, a 20 minute block is an easy step down that still gets real work done.

How to use it

  1. Open the timer with the button at the top of this page. It starts paused at 20:00.
  2. Press Space or the play button to start, and Space again to pause.
  3. Turn on ambient sounds with A, or pick music from YouTube in the music panel.
  4. When it ends, the chime plays and the tab title blinks until you come back. Press Space to run it again.

Questions

Is a 20 minute nap a good idea?

Twenty minutes is a common recommendation for a nap because it tends to end before deep sleep, so waking up is easier. Set the timer, turn on brown noise or rain, and put the phone face down.

Is timerz free?

Yes. Every scene, sound and feature is free, with no account and no ads. If it helps you, you can leave a tip on Ko-fi, or become a supporter once (pay what you want, from 5 dollars, on Gumroad) to unlock your own photo as a scene and two extra fonts. There is no subscription.

Does timerz work offline?

Yes. timerz is a progressive web app. After the first visit the app, its scenes and sounds are cached, and you can install it on your desktop or phone. Only the YouTube music needs internet.

Where is my data stored?

In your browser, using localStorage. Settings, tasks and session history never leave your device. There is no server and nothing to sign up for. You can export your history as JSON or erase everything from settings.

Does the timer keep running if I switch tabs?

Yes. The timer stores when it started and derives the remaining time from the clock, so a background tab, a sleeping laptop or a page reload do not make it drift. The remaining time also shows in the tab title.
