timerz includes ten ambient tracks you can layer freely, each with its own slider and a master volume. Because they are synthesized in the browser, they start instantly, loop without seams and work offline. Save any mix as a preset and every scene comes with a suggested one.

Mixes that work
For deep work: brown noise at 40 percent with rain at 30. For reading: fireplace at 50 with wind at 15. For writing: ocean waves at 50 alone. For a long afternoon: stream at 40, birds at 20 and a little wind. Save the ones you like with a name; they appear as chips in the sounds panel.
How the sounds are made
White noise is random samples. Pink noise is white noise shaped so each octave carries the same energy, which sounds more even. Brown noise is integrated white noise, deep and soft. Rain is pink noise through a band pass with a slow swell on top. Wind is brown noise through a wandering low pass. Fire is a rumble plus randomly gated crackles. Thunder is a low rumble with a random envelope every ten to thirty seconds. Ocean waves are pink noise with a swell that rises fast and falls slowly. Stream is band passed pink noise with a moving center. Birds are short frequency sweeps at random intervals, panned left and right.
Questions
Why not use recordings?
Recordings loop, weigh megabytes and need a download before they play. Synthesis gives an endless, seamless sound that works offline and starts the moment you press play. The trade off is that some sounds, like a café, are hard to fake, so they are not included.
Does the mute button silence the music too?
Yes. The mute button in the top right corner silences ambient sounds, YouTube music and the end of phase chime at once. The X key does the same.
Can I keep the sounds on during breaks?
Yes. The sound mix is independent from the timer. It keeps playing across focus and break phases until you turn it off.
Is timerz free?
Yes. Every scene, sound and feature is free, with no account and no ads. If it helps you, you can leave a tip on Ko-fi, or become a supporter once (pay what you want, from 5 dollars, on Gumroad) to unlock your own photo as a scene and two extra fonts. There is no subscription.
Does timerz work offline?
Yes. timerz is a progressive web app. After the first visit the app, its scenes and sounds are cached, and you can install it on your desktop or phone. Only the YouTube music needs internet.
Where is my data stored?
In your browser, using localStorage. Settings, tasks and session history never leave your device. There is no server and nothing to sign up for. You can export your history as JSON or erase everything from settings.
Does the timer keep running if I switch tabs?
Yes. The timer stores when it started and derives the remaining time from the clock, so a background tab, a sleeping laptop or a page reload do not make it drift. The remaining time also shows in the tab title.
